삼성전자와 네이버클라우드가 경기 성남시 분당구의 네이버 제2사옥 ‘1784’에서 국내 최초의 ‘이음 5G(5G 특화망)’[1] 서비스를 위해 협력한다고 2일 밝혔다.
네이버클라우드는 지난해 11월 5G 특화망 신청 이후 3월 삼성전자와 ‘5G 특화망 및 클라우드 솔루션 사업 협력을 위한 양해각서(MOU)’를 체결했다. 최근 삼성전자의 이음 5G 전용 장비를 1784에 적용한 데 이어 무선국 개설 인허가 절차를 완료해 국내 최초로 5G 특화망이 도입된 테크컨버전스 빌딩을 구축했다.
이번 5G 특화망 도입을 통해 1784는 △인공지능(AI) △로봇 △자율주행 등 첨단기술이 융합된 혁신 서비스들을 끊임없이 실행하는 ‘테스트베드’의 역할을 하게 된다.
특히 양사는 이곳에서 세계 최초로 5G 특화망과 클라우드를 기반으로 하는 자율주행 로봇 서비스를 개시한다.[2]
이음 5G에 연결된 클라우드는 로봇의 두뇌 역할을 해 수십~수백 대에 달하는 로봇들과 정보를 동시에 주고받을 뿐 아니라 자율주행 경로를 초저지연·실시간으로 제어한다. 이를 기반으로 로봇은 1784 내 임직원들에게 택배·커피 배달 등의 편의 서비스를 제공한다.
1784에 설치된 삼성전자의 이음 5G 전용 기지국 라디오와 컴팩트 코어[3] 등 통신장비는 로봇과 클라우드 사이의 통신을 연결하는 신경망으로서 핵심 역할을 맡게 된다.
삼성전자는 대용량의 데이터 업로드가 요구되는 기업에 특화해 이음 5G 전용 장비의 업로드 주파수 비중을 일반 통신망(약 20%) 대비 약 두 배 수준으로 확대 할당함으로써 한 번에 많은 수의 로봇의 데이터 업로드를 처리할 수 있게 했다.
삼성전자와 네이버클라우드는 이음 5G와 클라우드를 기반으로 하는 비즈니스 모델을 지속해서 개발하고 활용 사례를 적극 발굴함으로써 국내외 5G 특화망 사업 활성화 및 생태계 확장에 이바지할 수 있도록 상호 협력해 나갈 예정이다.
양사는 1784 이음 5G 서비스를 시작으로, 내년 세종시에 구축 예정인 ‘각 세종’ 신규 데이터센터에서도 협력을 이어갈 예정이다.
이와 함께 제조·물류·항만, 의료 등 여러 산업 분야의 기업과 이음 5G 도입을 위한 논의를 진행 중으로, 솔루션 파트너사도 적극 발굴해 5G 특화망 생태계를 조성하는 등 긴밀한 협력을 지속해 나간다는 계획이다.
네이버클라우드 전략&기획 총괄 한상영 상무는 “1784는 네이버 첨단기술이 융합된 건물이자 미래 기술의 테스트베드로서, 5G 기반의 클라우드를 핵심적으로 사용한다”며 “삼성전자와 함께 이음 5G를 확산하고, 클라우드를 기반으로 더 많은 기업이 디지털 혁신을 이룰 수 있도록 지속 협력해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.
